Best Time to See Fall Colors in Grand Tetons
If you want to witness nature’s fashion show in full swing, why not plan a park excursion in September? The drop in temperature shakes off the summer crowds and simultaneously shakes up the trees, resulting in a flashy display of yellows, oranges and reds. Trust us, it’s worth it. Autumn in the Tetons seasonally spans the beginning of September to mid-October, but for prime leaf-peeping, try to hit the sweet spot around the third week of September. Don’t wait too long or you might miss nature’s catwalk extravaganza!

My Personal Favorite: Gros Ventre Road
You’re going to be feeling some type of way when you see this place. Just a short distance from the north entrance of the park you will find Gros Ventre Road. You will pass Gros Ventre Campground on your right. Continue on this road for about another 2 miles and just as it curves around you will get this incredible view.
Catch Several Fall Views From Lower Slide Lake
Just 20 minutes east of Gros Ventre Road you will want to make your way to Lower Slide lake to catch some more amazing views. There are several overlooks that allow you to pull over and admire the views before heading down to the lake. Carve out some time to take advantage of all these pit stops!
Schwabacher Landing is a Must See All Year
This is considered one of the most popular areas of the park, and for good reason! Follow I-89 north from Jackson Hole for about 16 miles, and keep an eye out for that small gravel road on your left. Dead-end into a gravel parking lot and voila! You’ve arrived.
But be warned, this place gets busy. To truly capture the best colors, make sure to hit the trail at beginning of Schwabacher’s Landing – because, let’s be real, nobody wants to see mediocre shots on their timeline. So set that alarm clock!
Snake River Overlook is Iconic
If you’re looking for a picture-perfect view of Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park, you simply can’t afford to miss the Snake River Overlook! This is the spot that legendary photographer Ansel Adams immortalized, and trust us, you won’t be disappointed. Although it may not be bursting with fall colors, you’ll definitely want to snap a pic of those lush green evergreens with the yellow trees peeking through. It’s a postcard-worthy scene!
Experience Autumn at Oxbow Bend
Who says you can only catch a good photo op with Grand Teton’s wildlife during summer? The north end of the park is equally photogenic during fall, especially when those towering aspens and cottonwood trees start turning a vibrant yellow and gold. It’s like a double dose of color explosion when you see their reflection in the Snake River nearby. Trust me, this place is a fall photographer’s dream! Don’t miss out on one of the best fall experiences Grand Teton has to offer.
Two Ocean Lake Road is a Hidden Gem!
Let me tell you, if you’re not driving to Two Ocean Lake in September and early October, you are seriously missing out. Those aspen trees are so gold!! But wait, there’s more! The shorter brushes and leafy undergrowth also turn into a rainbow of colors, making the area a fall foliage paradise. Can you believe it? And get this, we had the whole place to ourselves. Why aren’t more people visiting this spot? It’s unknown! Do yourself a favor and add Two Ocean Lake to your fall travel plans, pronto!
Unforgettable Vistas at Pilgrim Creek Road
Have you heard of Pilgrim Creek Road? Sure, it’s known for its wildlife sightings, but did you know it also offers spectacular views of Mount Moran framed by colorful trees? Don’t let this hidden gem slip by, it’s a year-round beauty. Ready to check it out? Click here for detailed directions.
