How to Get to Frigliana
Embarking on the journey to Frigiliana is like stepping into a charming storybook town, and there are a few delightful ways to make your way there!
If you’re feeling adventurous and want to soak in the picturesque landscapes, hopping in a car is a whimsical option. Just follow the signs along the A-7/E-15 highway, and you’ll soon find yourself in the heart of Frigiliana. For those who prefer a relaxed and scenic ride, buses are a great option that connect you from nearby cities such as Malaga or Nerja. And if you fancy a seamless and cozy journey, consider a taxi or private transfer from Malaga Airport or Nerja.
Although there are several airports to choose from, we chose to fly into the Málaga Airport but here are some other options:
- GRANADA AIRPORT: located 1 hour, 12 minutes away
- SEVILLE AIRPORT: 2 hours, 47 minutes away
- MÁLAGA AIRPORT: 56 minutes away
If you don’t want to worry about renting a car you can catch a bus to Frigiliana. If you are planning on taking a bus, I would recommend flying into the Málaga airport because the trip will be far shorter than other airports in South Spain.
Estimated Cost: $60 average price

How to Rent a Car in Spain
The fastest way to get to Frigiliana is traveling by car. We rented our car through Hertz at the Malaga Airport, and it made it so much easier to get on the road quickly! Here are some things to consider when renting a car:
- Expected Cost: We spent 60 euros a day, but this was due to us choosing an automatic car. Automatic is absolutely worth the added cost. We visited during off peak season (February), so the price will fluctuate depending on when you visit.
- Make sure you have car insurance. The easiest way to do this is to look into the credit cards you use to see if they provide it. We have Chase Sapphire and American Express, both provide coverage.
- Be mindful of speeding! Speed cameras are very common on the highways and there is NO room for error. We learned this the hard way when we got back home to a speeding ticket, luckily it was only 50 euros. If you live in the US you know this is a cheap speeding ticket in comparison.
- We did not need an international drivers license. Licenses from the US were sufficient proof. But always double check with car rental company before you go!
Book a Tour that takes you to Frigiliana
Feeling adventurous? Take a day trip to Frigiliana with one of the many tour companies out there (expected time: 9 hours). Don’t believe me? Just Google it – the options are endless! But why sift through the mediocre when I’ve handpicked some of the best below.
Here is the Best Time to Visit Frigiliana
Frigiliana is located along the Mediterranean Sea, and warm weather is no stranger to this part of Spain. Winters are mild and summers can be quite hot.
If you want to soak in some sun, you will want to visit June – September (average temp: 97 °F). Busy tourist season and high peak costs are from May – July. If you want to keep costs low, but enjoy some nice weather I would recommend visiting outside of the months mentioned above.
We went in February, and found there were a lot of things to do in Frigiliana.
What To Know Before Getting to Frigiliana
When venturing to the enchanting streets of Frigiliana, a radiant gem of a sugar cube town nestled in the Spanish countryside, I have just a few travel tips to help your trip even better!
- How much time should you set aside to explore? Although small in size, there is a good selection of things to do in Frigiliana. I recommend spending at least 1 full day in Frigiliana. If you’re pressed for time you can easily cover the entirety of this town in about 3 hours. Rest assured, even 3 hours will allow you to cross off the best things to do in Frigiliana.
- Best way to get around Frigiliana? It is a very walkable town, but it’s filled with cobblestone streets. You will find a lot of steady inclines and stairs, because this village is found on a hillside BUT it pays off because you get some amazing views!!! Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.
- What if I can’t speak Spanish? It always helps to know how to speak the local language, but you will find that many locals know how to speak English.
- What should I budget when visiting Frigiliana? Accommodations in Frigiliana are VERY reasonable with the average cost of hotels at $70. We spent under $100 on food for the day.
This Frigiliana Hotel has Resident Dogs!
Being greeted by a dog AND enjoying some top-notch views of Frigiliana in cozy villas? The only thing better would be if the dog comes with the villa! You can stay in Frigiliana or in a neighboring town like Nerja or Malaga. We opted to stay at La Posada Morisca located just under 10 minutes north of Frigiliana and we are SO happy we did because we met the cutest dogs!!!
And although the dogs here were a MAJOR highlight, the property itself is very cozy and charming with incredible views of Frigiliana, a pool, a delicious restaurant and the sweetest hosts! This is definitely one of the best things to do in Frigiliana.
