I had heard rumors Scotland was beautiful, but I was not prepared for how smitten I would be with this place. It’s no wonder my sister decided to get married here, it gave me the perfect excuse to escape to Scotland. And bonus: my sister’s husband is from the UK so they gave me some insider tips on the most unique places in Scotland! Our time in Scotland was short-lived, but if there is one thing I am good at it’s squeezing as many spots as possible into our itinerary. I audibly GASPED when I saw Braemar!!! This little slice of heaven, nestled near the Cairngorms National Park, is easily one of the prettiest villages in all of Scotland. Its claim to fame? Oh, just the world-famous annual Highland Games, no biggie. The Highland games take place every first Saturday of September, not to mention the best of the best when it comes to pipe bands, pipers, Highland dancers, and athletes. This is easily most unique places to visit in Scotland.
Looking to mingle with royalty? Take a trip to Braemar, Scotland, nestled in the Cairngorms National Park. Get active with a hike up Morrone Hill or Linn of Dee, take in the sights and sounds of wildlife, or ride the trails on two wheels.

Pinching myself, because this is the most magical castle in Scotland!!! It is literally PINK and looks like something straight out of a fairytale!! Craigievar Castle in Aberdeen is shining brighter than ever after a magical makeover that’s brought out its vibrant pink hues after a lengthy renovation from 2022-2024. Thanks to the hard work of the National Trust of Scotland, this enchanting castle is back to its rosy best. I cannot hype this place up enough. And it is absolutely one of the most unique places to visit in Scotland
The castle is only accessible via guided tours, available from late spring to early autumn; booking in advance is recommended due to high demand.
The site includes parking, a visitor center with a café, and a small shop. However, facilities are limited and there is no photography allowed inside. While exploring, wear comfortable shoes for the extensive gardens and uneven terrain. Note that the castle has limited accessibility for those with mobility issues due to narrow staircases and the absence of elevators.
Nearby attractions include Balmoral Castle and Cairngorms National Park, making Craigievar a charming stop in a broader Scottish adventure.

If you are visiting Scotland between April and October you don’t want to miss taking the Jacobite Steam Train through these tracks. We visited in November, and sadly missed views of this iconic train but this is definitely one of the most unique places in Scotland!
