Dressing for the Weather in Scotland in November

Before my Scotland trip, I was so stressed out about what to wear in Scotland in November. How thick should my jacket be for the cooler weather? How do I look chic when it’s raining? What shoes should I pack? How do I feel comfortable and cute for sightseeing?!

When preparing for Scottish weather, remember that you could potentially experience all four seasons in one day! Dress accordingly and layer up. Keep some waterproof boots on standby for when the inevitable rain hits. Also, don’t forget a compact raincoat for those sudden downpours. Your outfit should be flexible and quick-drying, and always have a trusty umbrella with you – after all, it’s Scotland!

But don’t worry, I will be sharing some of my favorite items below so you know what to pack for Scotland in November!

Let’s Talk Waterproof Clothing for Scotland

Ah, Scotland, where the rain comes with a guarantee! So it’s no secret waterproof clothing is ESSENTIAL to protect you from the elements. Trust me, you do not want to be out and about exploring when a downpour hits and you find yourself drenched.

Don’t forget to bring a slick waterproof jacket with a hood. And just in case you step into a puddle, throw in some waterproof shoes – no need for full-on galoshes unless you’re ready to get drenched in the mud.

So apparently my favorite rain jackets are out of stock. But I’ve scoured the depths of the internet and found some pretty good replacements. Check them out here, here and here. This one is especially cute. Now, I did previously advise that a jacket with a hood is essential, but who am I to pass up the opportunity to show you some cute waterproof jackets without a hood? Don’t believe me? Feast your eyes upon this, and this. You’re welcome!

Layers Are A Total Must!

Here’s a pro-tip for what to wear in Scotland in November: don’t go overboard with the layers! I went all out and piled on sweaters, jackets, and long sleeves for that freezing weather, but boy was I wrong! While it’s smart to pack these items, keeping it simple is key. I discovered that wearing a jacket with a lightweight sweater or long-sleeve tee was the perfect way to achieve warmth without adding weight. And this will give you more flexibility to wander about!

As for layering options, I recommend long-sleeve tops, chic sweaters here, here, and here, and even a few bodysuits to help keep it classy.

Best Shoes for Scotland

When deciding what to wear in Scotland in November, it’s essential to pick shoes that can handle the ever-changing weather while keeping your feet cozy during long hours of exploration. what to wear in Scotland in November

Your go-to should definitely be waterproof boots – ideal for dodging rain and puddles while keeping your toes dry and toasty. Opt for ones with strong traction to ace the slick cobblestone streets and rugged landscapes like these.

Plus, a comfy pair of sneakers with good support can come in handy for lighter activities and city sightseeing. The key is to select adaptable and tough footwear that will have you prepared for any weather Scotland plans to throw at you. Trust us, you’ll enjoy your trip to the fullest with a smile on your face and happy feet.

If you’re anything like me, and want to stroll around some Scottish towns in a cute little skirt or dress don’t forget to pack some warm tights! I went the cheap route and just bought some thin, flimsy ones and immediately regretted it when that Scottish wind hit me. Here is a great option.

Extra Helpful Items To Have For November Scotland Trip

When considering what to wear in Scotland in November, there are a few extra helpful items to pack beyond clothing and shoes.

An umbrella or compact rain poncho is essential for sudden showers, while a travel-sized power bank ensures your devices stay charged during long days out. Pack a sturdy, water-resistant backpack to carry your essentials and keep them dry. This one is my favorite! Lastly, don’t forget a good-quality camera or smartphone with ample storage to capture Scotland’s breathtaking landscapes and memorable moments.

I hope this guide helps give you an idea on what to wear in Scotland in November! And while you’re here, make sure to check out my other Scotland travel guides.
