So You Want to Know Why Seville is SO Popular?

The way I GASPED when I saw photos of Seville!!! Nothing can prepare you for how beautiful it truly is, but it’s so  much more than just photogenic!

Seville Spain is quite the catch – the things Seville is more known for is its UNESCO World Heritage Site historic center, flamenco scene, and more! Let’s not forget about the delicious tapas and local specialties here as well. Plus, the Seville Cathedral and Alcázar Palace are pretty impressive sights to see. Seville is definitely the ultimate cultural, historical and culinary hot spot.

Is One Day in Seville Enough?

Whoever claimed that Seville in one day isn’t sufficient clearly hasn’t met me. I knew that with a bit of cleverness, and a whole lot of drive, we could make the most of our limited time. And that’s exactly what we did – in just 24 hours, we managed to explore all the must-see sights and hidden gems that Seville has to offer.

In a perfect scenario I would actually have unlimited vacation time, but I guess corporate America has other plans for me. But don’t worry, because I have just the perfect seville in one day itinerary!

On the Hunt For Some Seville Spain Hotels?

We’ve got a serious crush on Marriott hotels, but this one takes the cake.

Smack dab in the center of Seville’s historic district, it’s basically a storybook of old-fashioned elegance. Imagine waltzing into the lobby and being hit with a posh vibe fit for royalty. And don’t even get us started on the rooms – think luxurious beds and stylish decor. From lazy days in the courtyard to sun-soaked afternoons, every second at Hotel Alfonso XIII is like living our best life. Trust us, book a stay – you’ll thank us later.

Let’s Talk About The Best Things to do in Seville in One Day

Get ready for some marathon traveling, because this list is going to cover some serious ground! So grab your walking shoes and your appetite because you’re about to embark on a whirlwind tour of Seville’s top attractions, hidden gems, and unforgettable experiences! Whether you’re a history buff, a foodie, or just looking for some Insta-worthy moments, I am going to make sure you see the best of the best of Seville in one day!

Take a Stroll Through the Stunning Plaza De España

Chances are most people that add Seville to their itinerary, immediately want to know what to see in seville in one day and this spot TOPS the charts!! Plaza de España is so beautiful, it will leave you absolutely speechless. Now here is where the internet is divided: when is the best time to visit Plaza de España?? The answer may shock you!!

It’s no secret we woke up early to capture these photos, and enjoyed having some time to ourselves before the crowd ensued BUT we really wish we could have seen this plaza come to live!! I am talking Flamenco dancers and even cute little gondola rides! So you just may want to rethink that alarm for an early morning wake up call.

Wander Through Royal Alcázar of Seville

There is no easy way to say this, but expect very large crowds here!! We are use to our fair share of crowds, but this spot felt extra popular. I have to admit that it totally makes sense. because this place is stunning!! This is a spot that needs to be put on your Seville in one day itinerary!

So what makes this place SOO popular?? Once upon a time, there was a royal palace in Seville that screamed architectural and historical significance. It’s so old – as in dating back to the 10th century old – that it’s one of Europe’s oldest royal palaces. And boy, does it have a story to tell…

Imagine centuries of royal life and cultural exchange, all under one roof. But don’t be fooled, this palace isn’t just a beautiful face. It seamlessly blends Moorish, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles, leaving you swooning at every turn. And let’s not forget about the tranquil gardens that offer a retreat from the city’s chaos.

If you’re not already sold, the palace’s global fame as a “Game of Thrones” filming location might do the trick. At the end of the day, this palace’s timeless appeal will enchant you with its beauty and history.

What to Know Before Visiting Royal Alcázar of Seville

The Royal Alcázar of Seville is definitely one of those things that top the charts on what to do in seville in one day! But before you race over there, here are some important things you need to know before your visit.

The Royal Alcázar of Seville is open 7 days a week from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Make sure to get there early!

You can purchase tickets here.

Consider joining a guided tour to gain deeper insights into the history, architecture, and significance of the Alcázar. Guided tours are available in multiple languages and can enrich your visit with expert commentary.

I recommend booking this tour.

As the Alcázar includes outdoor gardens and indoor spaces, it’s recommended to wear comfortable clothing and sturdy footwear suitable for walking. Additionally, although there are signs that encourage modest attire like no bare shoulders, flip flops or shorts, I can confirm it’s not enforced. Just make sure you’re not strolling in with just a bathing suit on, because I think it may be harder for them to overlook that!

Photography is permitted in most areas of the Alcázar, but some sections may have restrictions or require a photography permit. Respect any signage or guidelines provided by staff regarding photography.

Catch a Peek of Christopher Columbus at Catedral de Sevilla

I’m not one to spread gossip, BUT Seville locals say Catedral de Sevilla is home to Christopher Columbus tomb!! I am sure you are wondering what the back story here is, because truth is?? I was intrigued by this little piece of information floating around town, and here is what I learned…

Inside Seville’s cathedral door is the tomb of Christopher Columbus, held up by allegorical figures representing Spain’s four kingdoms. Sculpted by Arturo Melida in 1899, the tomb was originally in Havana until Spain lost control of Cuba.

Columbus’ remains were moved several times before arriving back in Seville. But here is where the story gets INTERESTING…A mysterious box inscribed with Columbus’ name was found in the Dominican Republic, casting doubt on the remains in Seville. Despite rigorous examinations and a recent DNA analysis of the remains in Seville, the question remains a bit of a mystery – or is it? The answer may depend on whose evidence you trust.

Is the Catedral de Sevilla free to visit?

While the Catedral de Sevilla (Seville Cathedral) is one of the largest and most impressive cathedrals in the world, it is not generally free to visit. However, there are certain exceptions:

Seville Cathedral is open from: 10:45 AM to 7:30 PM, Monday Through Saturday, 2:30 PM to 7:30 PM on Sundays.

If you want to skip the line and get a guided tour, check out this option here.

Access to the cathedral is usually free during religious services, such as Mass. Visitors are often welcome to attend these services, although respectful behavior is expected.

Discover the Secret Plaza del Cabildo

Most tourists don’t even know this spot exists, and we almost overlooked it until I caught a glimpse of beautiful, painted arches! And the good news is it won’t be put a damper on your travels through Seville in one day. Besides, it’s on the way to your next stop, so it’s totally worth a little detour to admire this secret little plaza. And it’s FREE to visit!

Indulge your sweet tooth at Dulces El Torno, where heavenly treats made by nuns are waiting to be devoured. Yemas from Convento Santa Clara or Convento San Leandro, jam from Convento Santa Paula, and a mouth-watering selection of pestiños, chocolates, and marzipan are just the beginning. Be sure to browse the souvenir and antique shops for unique treasures. And if you’re feeling adventurous, Sunday mornings bring an array of collectibles, from stamps and coins to military insignia and even archaeological pieces and minerals.

Tour A Real Life Bullring!

If you’re looking for a truly authentic experience in Spain you have to tour a bullring. There is nothing like it!! It definitely deserves a spot on your Seville in one day itinerary. Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza de Caballería. is the largest and most important bullfighting arena in Spain! Plus, there’s a museum where you can geek out over bullfighting history and artifacts.

Can you catch an actual bullfight show here? Yes, you may be able to snag a ticket if you visit during the months of April to September.

Fill Your Camera Roll At Casa de Pilatos

Although not considered a hidden gem, Casa de Pilatos has far less visitors than the much larger Alcazar of Seville Palace making this the perfect place to retreat from the crowds. And my personal favorite spot in Seville outside of the Plaza De España!!

As I stepped into the courtyard of Casa de Pilatos, I was blown away by the delightful variety of colors, textures, and patterns woven by the arches and azulejo tiles. It’s safe to say that the Dukes of Medinaceli have found a way to steal the show as the rulers of Seville’s largest private estate!

Important Information Before Visiting Casa de Pilatos

Like I said, this spot has the major WOW factor and it will feel almost impossible to recover after visiting this stunning home. Now let’s talk about what you need to know before feasting your eyes on one of the most photogenic spots in Seville!

During Winter (November to March), open Mondays to Sundays from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (ticket office until 5:30 PM).

In the Summer (April to October), we’re open Mondays to Sundays from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM (ticket office until 6:30).

You have the option to visit just the ground floor or both the ground and upper floors. The upper floor can only be accessed on a guided tour, which run from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM. In Summer, we add two additional tours, one at 6:00 PM and the last one at 6:30 PM. If you’re interested in visiting the upper floor, it must be guided.

General admission is 10 euros

Bonus Spots + Seville Hidden Gems

Seville is a big city, in fact I wasn’t quite prepared for how big it really is so we weren’t able to visit every spot on my wish list BUT that doesn’t mean you can’t. I had to include some cool bonus spots and Seville hidden gems to add to your Seville in one day itinerary…

Admire the Unique Structure: Setas De Seville

You might be wondering why we didn’t visit Setas De Seville, a widely recognized structure in this city and the largest wooden structure in the world!!! But it is a lot further from many of the Seville spots outlined above and we just didn’t have the time to run across town to see it in person. I hope you can squeeze it into your itinerary!!

Find the Hidden Legendary Sweets Made By Nuns

For four centuries, the nuns at Convento de San Leandro in Seville, Spain, have been selling a singular treat: yemas de San Leandro. Although yemas de Santa Teresa is available across the country, San Leandro’s signature yemas is only available at the convent – a Seville staple since the 13th century.  Pro-tip: Keep an eye out for a secret revolving tray in the foyer. Simply slide your payment into the slot and watch as a box of these heavenly sweets mysteriously appears in its place.

ADDRESS: Plaza San Ildefonso, 1, Seville, Spain

Admire the Art at Hospital de los Venerables

Who knew an old hospital could house such a amazing collection of oil paintings by Diego Velasquez, Francisco Varela, and other Spanish Golden Age artists?

Since 1991, the hospital has become the Focus-Abengoa Foundation after an impressive four-year makeover. Queen Sofia even hosted an exhibition for Sevillian Golden Age painters at the museum’s inauguration. The hospital’s been through some changes; it welcomed priests until 1840. Then, they got replaced with a textile manufacturer, but in 1848, the brotherhood got back ownership thanks to a royal order.

I hope my Seville in one day guide gives you all the intel you need to make the most of your short time in this beautiful city! And while you’re here, make sure to check out my other Spain guides.
